Mapping photography practice by Indonesian families and society is one of Unhistoried project. Our collections come from two kinds of approaches; First is found images—we call it as orphan images—in which we adopt leftover photographs and material from flea markets, garbage, and other sources. Second is donated images in which we invite colleagues and friends to participate by giving us access to their family archive. The second one focuses on known sources in which we could collaborate more in the mapping and collecting information. Thus, the donated images are aimed to enrich our materials and understanding by directing the materials for the research purpose only. All images from our collection are the intellectual rights of the respective owner. The usage of those materials will be for the purpose of education and research.
We have been receiving image donation from friends and colleagues and we hope to receive more. There are many ways of supporting us in this project. We often receive physical archive that we digitalize, archive, and then we would send them back along together with the digital file to the respective owner. Some of our friends send us the digital file from the scanned archive. There are also those who ask us to keep the archive for better preservation.
